How long will it take me to become a pilot?
In general you should expect to spend at least 50 hours in aircraft training. We recommend that you schedule at least two lessons a week to maximize the retention of the skills learned. A student training 2-3 times a week can finish our program in about 3-5 months.
How many hours of flying are required?
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) requires a minimum of 40 flight hours under Part 61. The average flight time for completion is 50 to 55 flight hours.
How long will it take before I can fly alone?
Answer: Student pilots are usually signed off for solo flight after 20 flight hours.
What are the medical requirements?
Answer: You must obtain a medical certificate in order to solo an aircraft. Medical doctors are designated by the Federal Aviation Administration to perform these physicals.
How old do I have to be to fly?
Answer: By FAA regulations you must be 16 years old to solo an aircraft and 17 years old to obtain a Private Pilot License. However, there is no age restriction on flight training.
Do I have to take any written exams?
Answer: All licenses and ratings will require passing a written exam.
Question: How often should I fly?
Answer: We suggest that you fly at least 2 times a week. The more you fly the faster and cheaper your flight training will be. If you are not able to fly this often we will work with your schedule to ensure you receive the most effective and efficient flight training.
What programs do you offer?
Solo Flight Training offers Private Pilot Certification (Airplane), Instrument Rating (Airplane), and Currency and Proficiency programs. We will be expanding our course offerings in the future to commercial and multiengine ratings.
How expensive is a private pilots license?
We have structured pricing based on our standard 4-month program broken down into 5 stages. In the Diamond DA40 each stage will range from $1,000 to $2,500, with the total program cost for a private pilot’s license at around $11,000. Using our Cessna 150 you can obtain you license for about $7,500.
